As the expectations of travellers, teams, and investors in hospitality evolve, CSR in hospitality is emerging as a strategic imperative. It is no longer just about limiting impact: it is about reinventing the way a place is designed, operated, and brought to life.
At Moon Hospitality, we believe that environmental sobriety, social inclusion, local roots, and transparency are not constraints, but the foundations of a new hotel model: more human, more desirable, more sustainable.
Through the example of Maison Mère, our 4-star urban resort in the heart of Paris’ 9th arrondissement, we share here our vision and concrete commitments for responsible hospitality.
1. Why has CSR become essential in hospitality?
A strategic opportunity for lasting differentiation
Hospitality is undergoing a profound transformation. Today’s travellers no longer settle for just a comfortable bed or a good breakfast: they want to understand what lies behind the experience, to know where they are stepping into and what they are contributing to.
The notion of CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) has thus emerged as a driver of attractiveness, innovation, and sustainability for hospitality stakeholders.
On one hand, guests demand greater transparency, ethics, short supply chains, and environmental commitment. On the other, employees want to work in organisations where well-being, inclusion, and purpose are at the heart of priorities. Finally, investors and institutions now scrutinise ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) criteria to assess the strength and relevance of projects.

2. The 4 pillars of CSR applied to the Maison Mère hotel
Environment, social, governance, and local roots.
🌱 Environment: towards more resource-efficient and circular hotels
In a historically energy-intensive sector, reducing environmental impact has become imperative.
At Maison Mère, we work with Les Alchimistes, a company specialising in the collection and recovery of organic waste. Each week, they collect our food waste to give it a second life by transforming it into local compost.
The Nectar restaurant, certified as a Collègue Culinaire de France and located within the Maison Mère hotel, embodies this circular approach: unsold products are creatively re-cooked to avoid any waste. The menu follows the rhythm of the seasons, favouring local suppliers located less than a 10-minute walk from the restaurant.
Maison Mère is certified with the Green Key label, a guarantee of a demanding and measurable environmental commitment. Waste produced in rooms is recovered thanks to various partnerships with charitable organisations. Solid soaps are collected and recycled by UniSoap, while coffee capsules are collected by La Poste during daily rounds to be recycled by Nespresso. Partially used guest amenities (liquids) are collected by Les Hôtels Solidaires for redistribution through a network of partner associations, as part of an anti-waste initiative.
🤝 Social and human: giving new meaning to hospitality
Hospitality is, above all, about people. Implementing a coherent CSR policy also means ensuring our teams have a fulfilling, educational, and inclusive working environment.
At Moon Hospitality, we promote :
Ongoing training and skills development, through dedicated internal programmes. All employees benefit from structured support from the start of their contract. An individual training pathway is available with a detailed schedule. The first week of the contract is dedicated to cross-trainings to enhance overall knowledge of the hotel. This week ends with a Test Night and Dinner at the hotel and restaurant.
A caring team culture, young and committed. Training sessions are organised throughout the year to allow each employee to develop their skills. Team spirit is strengthened by quarterly outings organised by management for all staff members.

🧭 Responsible governance: transparency and leading by example
We believe in transparent, fair hospitality that is aligned with its commitments. This is reflected in the rigorous selection of ethical suppliers, the building of long-term, trust-based relationships, and an internal policy founded on listening and inclusion.
We also make sure to source products and services from companies that share our vision, such as:
- UniSoap, which repurposes our used soaps through a solidarity-based initiative via ESATs (French organisations employing people with disabilities).
- Les Alchimistes, who collect and compost our organic waste locally.
- Castalie, which enables us to offer high-quality microfiltered water while drastically reducing our plastic consumption.
This approach to responsible governance is also reflected internally: we promote human and inclusive management, where diversity of profiles is a strength, and where every team member works within a clear, supportive, and motivating framework. For us, ethics is not just a statement: it is a guiding principle.

At Maison Mère, we have chosen to prioritise local suppliers of products and services, contributing to their growth. Daily purchases, such as bread and flowers, are made from our neighbouring partners located less than a 10-minute walk from the property. This approach helps reduce our carbon footprint by avoiding daily delivery trips while boosting the local economy, working with our neighbours such as Taka & Vermo and Le Pain Retrouvé. For its decoration, the hotel follows a sustainable and local approach by working mainly with Parisian artisans for its furnishings. Decorative objects come from partnerships with local artists or from auctions. In addition to showcasing the city and its creators, Maison Mère offers its guests a modern interior design made up of pieces sourced from flea markets: a new way of consuming, more responsible and sustainable.
3. Maison Mère Hotel: how we have integrated CSR into our daily operations
A trained and committed team engaged in the sustainable approach

At Maison Mère, CSR is not a theoretical concept: it is lived daily, in every action, every choice, every partnership.
All employees are trained in environmental issues, sustainable development goals, and the property’s social and environmental ambitions from the moment they join the company. They act as ambassadors of the sustainability policy and promote responsible practices to guests.
Education and support are at the heart of our practices to raise guest awareness and encourage them to adopt these initiatives, thanks to signage displayed on our website and throughout the property.
Organisation du travail
Work is organised to minimise task difficulty as much as possible:
- Linen logistics: optimised distribution in service areas to limit movement, efficient management of the clean and dirty linen cycle.
- Technology: software connected to the PMS (RoomChecking) helps reduce stress and improve productivity.
- Appropriate tools and equipment: ergonomic trolleys, suitable containers, lightweight vacuum cleaners, telescopic handles, linen placed in service areas with a step stool available.
- Training in proper movements and postures: support is provided to ensure optimal working conditions.
